Why We Do Not Allow Companion Animals at the Sanctuary
We understand how much people love their companion animals, and we truly appreciate that they want to share special experiences with them—including visiting the sanctuary for tours, weddings, and events. However, for the safety of all animals—both our residents and visiting pets—we have a strict policy that does not allow companion animals on-site.
Our sanctuary is home to many free-roaming animals, including 24 cats, rescued chickens, turkeys, peafowl, goats, pigs, and other vulnerable residents. Even the most well-trained and gentle dogs have natural instincts that can be unpredictable in a new environment, and unfortunately, we have seen firsthand how tragic the consequences can be. Instincts can override training in a split second.
Because we prioritize the safety and well-being of our rescued residents, we are unable to make exceptions to this policy. We kindly ask that visitors leave their companion animals at home when attending our tours, weddings, or events.
We truly appreciate your understanding and respect for our sanctuary's mission to provide a peaceful, safe haven for the animals in our care. Thank you for helping us keep them protected!

"What an amazing opportunity we got to experience! The farm was so beautiful (even if the weather was not) and Peter was a wonderful tour guide and provided so much knowledge and wonderful storytelling about the animals. We would definitely come back when the weather is better to experience it again. Gabrielle was so accommodating and allowed us to tour with them for our anniversary and we appreciate the opportunity to experience this amazing farm. The animals were all amazingly treated, like their babies, each one, and I could tell they were so happy to be there."

"This is such a special place. I’ve been to a number of farmed animal sanctuaries and Tamerlaine truly stands out. I cannot say how heartening it was to spend time with the wonderful two and four-legged people here. Their Airbnb is perfection, too. Thank you to the Tamerlaine community for hosting us and for the incredible work you do for so many. 🌱♥️"

"I cannot overstate how wonderful the experience I had at Tamerlaine was. It's an incredibly special farm full of loving, personality-filled animals who are cared for by dedicated people. If you're wanting to commune with animals — or get some perspective on the impacts of eating them — this tour or stay is perfect. We didn't stay in the house overnight, but the time we spent in it was dreamy, so if you and some herbivorous friends are in the market for a getaway this would absolutely be the place. Location is what it is, lightly out of the way but worth the trek and idyllic once you get there. One more rec: DO use Jam Cakery for easy + frankly phenomenal vegan eats for a big group. Easy to pick up en route to the farm, and Tere is just lovely."

"My husband and I had a wonderful tour of the sanctuary by the co-owner himself. The individual stories of each named rescue were amazing to hear, everyone was so pleasant, and of course, the animals were beautiful to see in the idyllic natural landscape. The tour was extensive and even went longer than the booked time, including learning about the many chickens recently rescued by the sanctuary. If you love animals, this is the perfect place to visit."

"We met Peter and Gabrielle about three years ago on a tour. We visit several times a year. We live 75 miles away or we would be there more often. I am a vegan for 17 years and my husband is not. He is an animal-lover. The staff do not care what your status is or isn't, but I mention it because everybody should go and pet their beautiful and loving animals. It is impossible not to love them all. Every time we leave we feel so glad that we went. I wholeheartedly believe in their mission to give these animals a safe sanctuary to live out the rest of their lives. I highly recommend a visit!"

"What a fantastic place - only 2 hours from NYC! For kids and grownups. If you like to see animals, it’s so much better than any zoo. But that’s an understatement. It’s also about getting close to them and learning about them - not only their biology, but also their habits, lifestyles, affinities and personalities. Each animal - from the 2000-pound bulls to the featherweight chickens - has a fascinating backstory too. They do public and private tours on weekends. The folks who run this place are amazing - real, down-to-earth, unpretentious, friendly and smart - and they go out of their way not just for the animals, but for visitors too. Apart from the animals and people, the location is also beautiful. There’s a 250-year old house on the site that has been continuously occupied since 1774. Walking through it is truly like stepping back in time. Also, the hills, fields and meadows surrounding the area are gorgeous at any time of year - but especially in the fall."
