Why CAMP COMPASSION at Tamerlaine?
Camp Compassion: Inspiring the Next Generation of Changemakers
At Camp Compassion, we believe a more compassionate world begins with the next generation. Our unique summer program inspires children to see animals not as commodities, but as sentient individuals deserving of kindness, respect, and protection.
Through meaningful encounters with rescued cows, pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, and other sanctuary residents, campers discover that every animal has a unique personality, emotional life, and desire to live. These powerful connections encourage children to question how animals are treated in our society and recognize how their everyday choices can help create a kinder world.
Our program also explores the connection between animal protection, environmental sustainability, and the health of our planet. Campers discover how our food choices affect animals, wildlife, and natural ecosystems while learning about compassionate, plant-based living. They'll explore our pollinator gardens, discover the importance of native plants and biodiversity, and learn how to create pollinator habitats of their own.
Throughout the week, campers build confidence, develop empathy, form friendships, and discover that even small acts of compassion can make a meaningful difference.
Each day is filled with hands-on activities, exploration, creativity, and fun, with delicious plant-based lunches and snacks included.
More than a summer camp, Camp Compassion is an opportunity to inspire a generation that sees all animals as individuals, understands our shared responsibility to protect the planet, and believes in its power to create positive change.
Nature Exploration
Campers will discover the vital connections between animals, plants, and the ecosystems we share. Through hands-on exploration of Tamerlaine’s pollinator gardens, they’ll learn how native plants support biodiversity and why protecting wildlife habitats is essential to a healthy planet. Using natural materials, campers will build imaginative shelters large enough to play in, along with smaller habitats designed to support local pollinators. These experiences inspire curiosity, environmental stewardship, and a deeper understanding of how even small actions can help protect the natural world.
Animal Encounters
Meet our rescued animal residents, discover their unique personalities, and hear their powerful stories of survival. Through meaningful interactions, campers learn to recognize animals as sentient individuals deserving of compassion, respect, and freedom. Special guest educators, including Miguel Endara from World Animal Protection, inspire campers to think critically about animal exploitation and discover how they can become advocates for change. Campers also put compassion into action through hands-on projects, such as building custom wheelchairs for chickens rescued during our upcoming Kaporos rescue campaign, helping vulnerable birds regain mobility and independence. These unforgettable experiences empower young people to become a voice for animals and discover that compassion is more than a feeling—it's something we put into action.
Arts & Crafts
Creativity comes alive at Camp Compassion, where art, nature, and imagination inspire meaningful hands-on experiences. With special guest artists and educators, including Dawn Ladd, founder of Aurora Lampworks, campers explore the power of creativity and sustainability through projects such as making solar-powered lamps. From painting, drawing, music, yoga, and photography to journaling, storytelling, and creating their own books, campers discover new ways to express themselves and celebrate the natural world. Using materials inspired by nature, they transform everyday objects into works of art while developing confidence, curiosity, and an appreciation for the planet. Every creation becomes an opportunity to explore, imagine, and discover how creativity can inspire compassion and positive change.
