Birds

Unlike bats, birds are attracted to plants mainly by color. In fact, when you see a brightly colored plant with petals that flip back at the edges, that flower was made to welcome birds for pollination. Birds pollinate when they feed on nectar, or through “plop pollination,” when the disperse seeds after eating fruits.

Global bird populations are declining due to habitat loss, and a lack of food—native plants and the insects that eat them. Pesticides and monoculture farming result in a lack of food resources.

All of these pollinators depend on native plants for food, and create food by pollinating. This cycle is a wonderful example of the beautiful interconnection we all share. Do you want to help? Start by growing a native plant garden.
