A SANCTUARY FOR ANIMALS
Since 2013, we have been a paradise for previously neglected and abused farmed animals. We have clucking hens, crowing roosters, quacking ducks, oinking pigs, turkeys, goats, cows, horses, and over 200 animals that call Tamerlaine Sanctuary and Preserve their home, all of them with their own unique personality and personal history.
We currently have quite the flock, including animals rescued from factory farms, ritual sacrifices, urban slaughterhouses, and found abandoned, wandering the streets of New York City. We provide a loving home and specialized care, taking an individualized approach to the long-term care of each of our animal residents who find a safe haven at Tamerlaine.
We are open to the public for visits and events so that people can experience the transformative qualities of a sanctuary, connect with and learn to appreciate farmed animals as individuals, and experience nature at our Preserve. If you are interested in visiting, go to our "Visit" page and make an appointment. We frequently have volunteer days in which you can come up for the day and meet the animals and enjoy the beautiful property. If you are interested in volunteering, sign up on our “Volunteer” Page.
Our Sanctuary is possible thanks to our incredible and generous supporters and members. We invite you to become a 2019 Charter Member, sponsor an animal, or donate what you can to help us be a thriving organization. We also sell merchandise and our delicious and award winning hot sauces. You can order our products online via our “Shop to Support” page. There are so many ways to become involved.
We invite you to join our community and look forward to seeing you at the Sanctuary!
In 2013, we decided that we wanted to share our forty-acre farm with rescued farmed animals. We thought chickens would be a good start and began the process of looking for some hens who needed rescuing. What we learned is that roosters are the hardest birds to place, needing more homes than any other animals. So, we adopted two roosters, Yuri and Jupiter. We never imagined the impact these two fellows would have on our lives. We quickly became extremely attached to these handsome boys. They would greet us when we got home, show up at our back door waiting for snacks, and would eat breakfast in the kitchen with our two dog companions. Their role in our lives ignited a dream to create a refuge for more of these intelligent and affectionate beings.
In 2014, we founded Tamerlaine Sanctuary & Preserve to create a paradise for neglected and abused farmed animals and have been caring for the animals here and providing humane education ever since. Stunningly, an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime property near our current sanctuary came onto the market. Built in 1774 this historic farm, formally known as Westfall Farm, comprises 336 acres of pristine and preserved farmland equipped with spacious barns, stables, fenced in pastures, and hay fields. A charming colonial-era home, which will be the future home of The Inn at Tamerlaine Farm, overlooks the entire site. In December 2017, we took a leap of faith and purchased this historic property which is right around the corner from our current sanctuary. We hope to create a haven for farmed animals and wild animals alike that will go on for generations to come.
While assuming ownership of this site and converting it to an animal sanctuary and preserve accelerates our expansion plans, with your help, we will be able to execute this undertaking and embrace it will all of our energy, passion, and determination. The number of lives, both human and animal, that can be transformed by Tamerlaine Sanctuary in this new space dramatically surpasses what we can accomplish at our current facility. Join us in creating this incredible haven for future generations.
